Reading is something PAL values and loves to promote. Reading is so important and so is safety; at our PAL literacy events we encourage reading and safety through videos our amazing officers have filmed for us.
Our literacy program has looked a bit different this year, instead of setting up a school assembly style event, we have been giving our schools the option to just do a book drop off or a book drive thru.
So far, since the fall, we have gone to 24 schools across the county. That includes, Evergreen, Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Ridgefield and the Battle Ground school districts! And we still have 10 schools to go from April to June.
Our amazing law enforcement volunteers have really stepped up their game this year. Not only attending our drive through events, but also letting us film them for cool patrol car videos, safety talks and tours of other police vehicles. Since the fall we have had over 30 law enforcement volunteers come out and help us with our book drive thru and also help us film our videos we send to the schools. Those volunteers came from seven different agencies across our county!
We’ve also been granted with a grant through the Camas Washougal Community Check to expand our programming. We’ve been hosting literacy events at their elementary schools and now we get the chance to expand and bring our PAL Patrol program to their schools. Our officers through Camas and Washougal Police Departments get to adopt classrooms and hang out with some cool kiddos! So, thank you for this amazing opportunity!
