PAL Basketball in Review

Nelson Mandela’s words ring so true for us at PAL and this year with the support of a grant from NIKE, an opportunity to surprise our youth from Nautilus, Inc., and recognition from the Nonprofit Network of Southwest Washington for our work with both Vancouver & Evergreen Schools, we were able to totally rock our basketball season!

PAL expanded our basketball tournaments from two to five and we more than doubled our participation from schools! Over 200 youth participated in our PAL sponsored after school basketball programs, allowing 13 schools to be represented by 21 different teams!

Additionally, we were able to host our first annual PAL Youth Basketball Southwest Washington Championship where the top two teams from each district went head to head in one more tournament. The championship was made that much more special by Clark College players hosting the games and running a skills clinic in which all 200 players were invited to attend. Not mention, that all the youth and families were surprised by our very own Portland Trail Blazers, who took over the championship game!

Thank you to everyone who made these tournaments possible: Vancouver Public Schools, Evergreen Public Schools, Clark College, Nautilus, Portland Trail Blazers and NIKE. Everyone truly stepped up to show what a community coming together can look like!
