We are just about a month away from the very first APPLETREE Boston-Qualifying Marathon and Half Marathon that will be benefiting PAL. Our PAL Squad is deep in their training for this amazingly gorgeous and historical run through our community. The route of this race takes runners “on a flat, fast and scenic course through Fort Vancouver, Officer’s Row, the Army Barracks, Pearson Airport, the Historical Old Apple Tree, and along the majestic Columbia River.”* So let’s get a look at a few of the participants taking on this challenge…
WE RUN. WE RUN TOGETHER, AS A SQUAD.WE RUN TO STRENGTHEN OUR HOME, OUR CITY, OUR COUNTY. WE RUN TO ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER. WE RUN TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LAW ENFORCEMENT, TEENS, FAMILIES, AND THE COMMUNITY. WE ARE THE PAL SQUAD.
OFFICER GERARDO GUTIERREZ : : FULL MARATHON : : FULL UNIFORM
SEARGEANT BLAISE GEDDRY : : HALF MARATHON : : FULL UNIFORM
OFFICER JULIE BALLOU AND ALICIA M : : HALF MARATHON TEAM
This is just a small part of the Squad, but they showcase the variety of people that will be taking to the pavement with hearts for running and hearts for this community. Alicia just graduated from high school and hopes to become an officer, so training for the marathon has been a great experience for her to get a taste of the grit and determination it takes to make it all the way! Other than members of law enforcement there are also Squad members that are PAL volunteers, members of neighboring organizations, and a few people who are just excited to participate in this run to support PAL. There is still a small number of slots available if anyone is interested in signing up with the PAL Squad. Race entry is free and raising money for PAL at the same time makes it a win-win!
