It’s camp season once again and our team at the Police Activities League has begun its annual festivities with Mad Science Camp! This year has looked a little different for all of us, and while we are still navigating through this unprecedented time, we knew camps needed to happen one way or another. While we aren’t in person this year, we are virtual, making camps accessible all the time. This means that even if you missed out on the live fun last week, you can still look back on the experiments our team did to do at home!
The PAL team handed out 150 camp kits to kids for Mad Science Camp last week at our three pick up sites in Battle Ground Police Department (PD), at Orchards Elementary, and at Fruit Valley Elementary. Our kit pick-up days will continue every other week throughout the summer to encompass all four summer camps that the team is putting together. Kit pick ups run for thirty minutes and kits go on a first come first serve basis. No need to fret if you can’t get a kit in time, though! We’ve posted supply lists with all the things you’ll need in order to complete the activities we are doing.
As Mad Science Camp kicked off we had so much fun handing out kits and learning about all of the campers favorite colors while they chose shirts to wear while they did the activities. We got to make slime with Deputy Lau, liquid chalk bombs with Officers Chavers and Armstrong, and so much more! It was absolutely different, but we kept up with campers one way or another and loved seeing your comments on our live streams and posted recordings. Kids even shared their own projects using #PALsInTheLab so we could see all the cool work they were doing!
Next week PAL is starting STEAM Camp! Thursday, July 9th, and Friday, July 10th, our team will be handing kits out once again. Kits will be handed out from 12:00-12:30 p.m. at Orchards and Fruit Valley elementary schools and 3:00 p.m. Thursday and 10:00 a.m. Friday at Battle Ground PD. Remember, these kits are first come first serve! However, we will be providing a supplies list as well in case you can’t get one. Join us next week in all the STEAM fun with #PALs4Science. See you soon, campers!
